Getting errors during Hyper-V Role Installation on Windows Server 2012??

Here, is a way to solve the problem  "Hyper-V cannot be installed because virtualization support is not enabled in the BIOS" on Windows Server 2012.

Before installing this role, you need to check the following things :

  • An x64-based processor. Hyper-V is available in only x64-based versions of Windows Server 2012
  • Processors must support virtualization technology — specifically, Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) and must be enabled under BIOS settings.
  • Hardware-enforced Data Execution Prevention (DEP) must be available and be enabled. Specifically, you must enable the Intel XD bit (execute disable bit) or AMD NX bit (no execute bit) under BIOS settings.

If the above things are already configured properly and you are still getting the same error which says "Hyper-V cannot be installed because virtualization support is not enabled in the BIOS" during installation, please follow the below steps:

Step 1) Try to install Hyper-V Role on Windows Server 2008 R2.
Step 2) If Hyper-V  works  fine on WS2008 R2, then you will need to update your BIOS version.
Step 3) After updating the BIOS version, try to install Hyper-V Role on WS 2012, you will not get any error this time.

I hope, this post will help you in Hyper-V Installation Role on WS2012.

If any issues, please post a comment.
